Origin of ptfe seals
In 1936, Roy Plunkett, the father of fluorine resin, began research on freon substitutes at DuPont in the United States. They collected some of the tetrafluoroethylene and stored it in a cylinder for another experiment, but when the cylinder pressure relief valve was opened the next day, no gas leaked. They thought it was a gas leak, but when they weighed the cylinders, they found they had not lost weight. They opened the cylinder and found a large amount of white powder, which was teflon.
It is found that POLYtetrafluoroethylene has excellent properties and can be used as anti-fusion gaskets for atomic bombs and artillery shells. As a result, the U.S. military kept the technology secret during World War II. It was not until the end of World War II that it was declassified and industrial production of TEflon was achieved in 1946.
Principle of ptfe sealing plug valve
Cylindrical PTFE sealing plug valve, the valve body is provided with PTFE sleeve and valve plug, which is the pressure valve seat ring pressure nut, and the sealing valve plug is through a certain interference PTFE sleeve, that is to say, the use of the spool of PTFE sleeve extrusion pressure to achieve sealing. Therefore, the surface roughness value of the valve core and PTFE sleeve should be small, and the geometric error should be small in order to achieve the specific pressure required for sealing. If the seat sleeve needs to be compressed again to restore the seal, it should be done in the valve closed position to prevent the PTFE sleeve from being pressed into the runner.
